Let it snow…..

I love snow days, especially when you groggily reach for you phone and hear the blessed words, “The St. Louis site is closed”. :) There is no sweeter sound than that.

Week 18.5ish

Hey everyone!  Sorry I’ve been away for a while.  I don’t have a good excuse as the whole unemployment thing does leave me with quite a bit of free time.  I’ve been writing more in my journal and not so much on the internets I guess.  Still wanted to poke my head up and say hi!  Thank goodness Patience and I share this blog or even our one reader would abandon us.  Hi Mom!  (Just kidding, she doesn’t read this.)

I can’t start off without mentioning the inauguration today.  I won’t wax poetic about it but I will say I was pleased that this day finally arrived.  Yay for no more excessive repeating of the phrase “President Elect Obama,” I’m ready to hear the words President Obama!  Wes and I watched the speech via Xbox Live coverage.  We are high tech.

As for baby news, I went to the doctor last Monday and got to hear the heartbeat for the first time.  That was really awesome!  Our doctor said the heartbeat was in the high 140s so it’s possible that is an indicator that the baby is a girl.  We should find out for sure next Tuesday at our big ultrasound session.  I can’t wait to find out!  Everyone is telling me that they think I’m having a girl but I haven’t had any premonitions one way or the other.  For those concerned, I still haven’t gained any weight with this pregnancy.  Actually I’d lost three pounds total according to my last weigh in.  However the belly is getting more pronounced.  I’ve also been eating like crazy the last couple days so I’m expecting all that to change soon.

We’ve got the crib now for the baby’s room and I’m getting excited about setting up the nursery.  I put together some Amy Butler fabrics into a quickie quilt.  I used her Belle Chrysanthemum Mustard print and Lotus Wall Flower Mustard print.  (I will post pictures later.)  It’s really not qualified to be called a quilt since it is only two pieces of fabric with embroidered “ties” to hold together the batting.  I really liked how it turned out though.  I’m thinking of using this as inspiration for the room colors.  I’ll probably order some more fabric soon and make some bumpers for the crib.  Wes says that this look is pretty instead of cute.  I’m okay with having a baby room that is more adult than traditional baby style though.  I like how it doesn’t scream boy or girl either.  This is the first thing that I’ve made for the baby so it felt good to make some progress.

I will update again next week with new pictures from the ultrasound and news about the gender.  Take care!

Feeling hot hot hot!

I sorta feel bad complaining (but not bad enough to stop) about this when people are literally freezing to death right now, but my house is like a sauna right now. The heater seems to be broken as it won’t turn off when it hits the set temperature. I realized that my house was hot last night when I got home, but I just thought I was hot because I was cooking and cleaning. Later that night as I lay on the couch melting I was like hey wait a minute why am I still hot, I’m sweating and I’m in a T-shirt! Seeing as I usually keep my house barely at 70 this is very odd. Looked at the thermostat and it had it above 90 in my house! I tried to turn off the heat, and even turned on the A/C but that didn’t fix it. I actually had a window cracked open in my house and a fan blowing on me last night to keep things tolerable. I couldn’t put my makeup on this morning because I was sweating just getting dressed this morning. Thank goodness I live in an apartment complex and can call maintenance to fix things. Here’s hoping I come home to a frigidly cold house.

Spent the afternoon picking seed out of cotton. That is some tough work! My fingers and back are killing me. I’m complaining but I am thankful that I was in a nice temperature controlled room sitting on a chair at a lab bench and not in some hot sticky cotton field filled with bugs. It does foster team building as you sit there as a group universally complaining about the process.

Happy Birthday to me…well close enough anyway.  Course I was suppossed to be getting black shoes that I can wear comfortably all day at work where I am on my feet most of the day running from machine to machine or from my desk to the lab.  Minor details.
